In this blog we'd like to invite you join us as we learn more about the state of our world, and our role in it. We want to encourage you, whether you feel you fit the stereotype or not, to be concerned with global and ethical issues.
Not Just Hippies
The name "Not Just Hippies" came from Kat's horror at being labeled a Hippy by her sister because she "is interested in the environment and development stuff". On the other hand, Sarah embraces the label.
Not Just Hippies is about rising above the stereotype and recognising that the present and future of our world depends on all of us being informed and caring about global issues.

Why?
The idea for this blog came out of a year of conversations between Sarah and Kat - after discovering a shared desire to be aware of global issues, we took upon ourselves the task to read and discuss a bunch of books on things we knew we really ought to know about but in reality had no concrete idea. Which given we both hope to use our lives and careers to bring about change, we figured posed a bit of a problem.
Starting with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, moving through a spot of political philosophy, and on to the last 50 years of African history we feel we're starting to scratch the surface.
We are starting this blog primarily as a way to share what we’re learning with our friends, and hopefully to gather in one place a selection of resources, articles, reports and comments to inspire you and us to come up with ideas on how we can actually bring about change.
